In accordance with Texas Election Code Section 141.003 and Section 3.02 of The City of Van Alstyne’s Home Rule Charter, an applicant for City Council or the office of Mayor shall have resided in the City not less than twelve (12) months immediately preceding election day.

Filing Deadlines for May 2, 2026 General Election
The City of Van Alstyne will hold an election May 2, 2026, electing two (2) Aldermen.
January 14, 2026 - First Day to File for Place on the General Election Ballot
February 13, 2026 5PM - Last Day to File for Place on the General Election Ballot
February 17, 2026 5PM - Last Day to File a Declaration of Write-in Candidacy
April 2, 2026 - Last Day to Register to Vote
A signed & sworn application may be filed in-person during the city’s normal business hours, by email to scoffer@cityofvanalstyne.us, or by U.S. Mail.
