Libby Parental Content Controls
Give your kids safe access to thousands of eBooks & Audiobooks with Libby content controls! Lock down browsing & search results to only show age-appropriate titles suitable for children and young adults. Teen materials can be toggled on or off to further tailor the app for younger kids.
How to Use
Set parental controls in the Libby app with a PIN or using biometrics (fingerprint or Face ID) to lock & unlock changes to your child's account. For more security, use a secondary device to set up parental controls.
Using an iOS Device
Scan the QR code that pops up on your selected device. Select Save as Passkey and click or tap continue. Enter the passcode or use Face ID to confirm. On the device being locked, select Lock With Passkey and scan the QR code again. Select Sign In With Passkey and save to lock changes. To remove content controls, select Remove This Requirement, then scan the QR code using your other selected device.
Using an Android Device
Sign in with a different Google account on the device you want to lock. You'll remove it from the device in the last step. Click or tap Create a Recovery Key. Select the alternate Google account, click or tap Continue, then select Done. On the device being locked, click or tap Lock With Passkey and follow the on-screen prompts. Choose the alternate Google account added in step one when prompted. When the process is complete, remove the alternate Google account from the device. To remove content controls, click or tap Remove This Requirement on the locked device, then scan the QR code on an alternate device signed in with the Google account used to set up content controls in step one.
Getting Started With Hoopla
Download Hoopla from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or visit HooplaDigital.com. Click or tap Get Started and select Van Alstyne Public Library as your home library. Enter your library card number and PIN, then complete registration by setting your email address and account password.
Kids Mode
Hoopla Kids Mode is a multi-format, digital media experience designed especially for kids (up to age 12). All of the content has been curated and brought together in this one family-friendly place. To enable Kids Mode, tap or click the "Kids" icon next to the search bar. For added security, a PIN can be added to unlock Kids Mode under Account Settings.
*Kids Mode is a feature that should be used with parental guidance. There are different age ranges using this feature and the titles available range from G-General Audiences to PG – Parental Guidance Suggested. Parents or guardians are expected to decide whether a specific title is appropriate for their child.*
