Recreation Center Coming to Van Alstyne

There are many things, understandably, people do not like about growth. But we can’t deny there are some benefits including new amenities.  The addition of new parks, facilities and events have been reoccurring announcements the last couple of years and we are keeping it going!

We are excited to share the Old Columbia College is being turned into the Van Alstyne Recreation Center.  588 W A Denton was originally built in 1936 and several generations enjoyed this school, specifically the basketball court.  Many have shared how much the

The gym is being completely renovated right now and amenities will include:

  • Restrooms
  • Kitchen area
  • Activity Room
  • Small Stage
  • Gymnasium (striped with basketball, volleyball, and pickleball courts)

The Van Alstyne Recreation Center will have many community benefits that the Parks and Recreation Department are pleased to bring us. It will temporarily house the Senior Center while the roads in front of the current Senior Center are being worked on.  The courts will have a variety of uses and ways to enjoy, as well as the stage and kitchen.  This space will be reservable for private events and we hope you all will enjoy this new Van Alstyne amenity.

Volunteer Opportunity: Library Board

The Library Board has four openings: three for two-year terms and one for a one-year term to fill a vacated seat.

The Library Board meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 5:30 PM at the Van Alstyne Public Library. Meetings are held in the months of Feb – May and August – November.
